
About the Social Affairs Committee and its Administration
The Social Affairs Committee and its Administration is a political body made up of local elected officials. It is a specialized Committee that through its Administration provides av variety of services needed by the City of Stockholm's 14 District Administrations, as well as some city-wide social welfare programs.
Among other services, the 14 District Administrations in Stockholm provide help and support on social issues. These include individual and family support and legal services, adoption and child custody, care for the disabled and care services for the elderly.
The Social Affairs Committee and its Administration is responsible for running a number of institutions, while the District Administrations place clients for treatment and rehabilitation at these different facilities. Services are provided for homeless people, substance abusers, families, youth and children at risk and clients with physical and mental disabilities.
A special team at the The Social Affairs Committee and its Administration prepares issue briefings and background materials for the City Council. Covering all the districts, such briefings include information about eligibility and treatment guidelines, policies, and evaluation concerning social issues.
The Social Affairs Committee and its Administration is also responsible for emergency social services when the District Administrations close for evenings and weekends. This is mainly through its social service emergency office.
Other specialised services organised by the The Social Affairs Committee and its Administration include a unit for homeless people, a crisis centre for battered women, family and substance abuse counselling units, grant-giving to NGO´s, coordination of social projects related to the EU, and liquor licences for the city's restaurants and bars. A citywide drug and crime prevention center is also run by the Administration.
